Today
in Science Lab we had to clean a “bird” after an oil spill. Instead of using an
actual bird, we used a bird’s feather. There were many choices of what we could
use, like our group used pet shampoo, corn starch, and baby powder. After you
put on the material, you would have to smell, look, and touch the feather to see
if the product affected it. First we did the pet shampoo, it worked very well because the
oil came off and the feather smelt very good. Next was the corn starch, it was
absorbent and the feather looked and felt fine but it smelt terrible. Finally,
my choice, the baby powder. Let me just say bad choice. I thought it would be a
good choice because it is soft and is gentle. Apparently, it is a horrible
choice to clean a bird’s feather. Our bird died because of my great baby
powder. I would use what I learned today in the future if I would ever have to
clean up animals after an oil spill. Science Lab was very fun and educational.
