Countdown

Countdown
By: Deborah Wiles
337 Pages

“No desk, no turtle, no cover. We are all about to die.” Countdown, by Deborah Wiles, is a book about a child’s life, Franny, before, during, and after the Nuclear War. Franny’s life is hard in many ways. For example, she is having troubles with her friends and family. Her best friend Margie has basically left her for a girl named Gale. Plus, her sister, Jo Ellen, is very secretive about her life and Franny wants to know what is happening. Franny is very brave, smart, and hopeful throughout this story. If this book was ever turned into a movie, I would want Selena Gomez to play the role of Franny.

Science Night

I learned many things during this 3-day period of research for Science Night. For example, I have never heard of a guy named Eratosthenes before and this experience helped me to learn about him. He was a mathematician, geographer, and astronomer. Some of the things he did were he found a way of finding prime numbers and he adopted or created the word geography. I am very glad that I got to learn about Eratosthenes and what he did to make my life easier.

Science Lab

Yesterday in Science Lab I had a lot of fun. We learned about plastics and petroleum products and how much stuff they are in today. For example, I never really thought about flowers, light switches, paint, etc. with having either plastic or petroleum products in them. Also, Mrs. Martinez then told us a story about an experiment with a group of people who had the same blood type and then were separated into two groups and were fed for a week with the same exact foods except for lunch everyday group one would have homemade soup and group two had canned soup. At the end of this experiment group two who had the canned soup had 100 percent more plastic in their body than group one. Amazing right?
